A strange constant in my life has been doing artwork for the band Dazzling Killmen; something I would have never expected when I began working with them in 1993. I am pleased to share the making of my latest illustration for their 2025 tour poster and apparel, Dissected Bouquet.
I submitted seven sketches to the band of different image ideas. To my happy surprise this is the one they picked. It happened to be the first one I drew and my personal favorite.
I always begin with a work drawing- a clear graphite line drawing that gets all the proportions and shapes down but leaves the detail for inking.
A blue line transfer is then made to Claybord, and inking begins.
For the silk screen coloring, the first layer of ink was red on grey paper stock.
Ocher covered the red as a second layer.
Lastly the black layer, completing the poster.
